The Role: An exciting opportunity has arisen for a
Senior Management Accountant to join a dynamic Finance and Corporate Services team. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in financial planning, budget management, and strategic decision-making within the Council’s
Finance & Property Business Partnering Team. This role requires a proactive individual with strong analytical skills, technical expertise, and the ability to manage a team of up to four staff members.
Key Responsibilities: ✔️ Lead and support financial planning, budget monitoring (capital and revenue), and financial forecasting.
✔️ Provide high-quality financial advice to senior stakeholders, ensuring effective decision-making.
✔️ Support the closure of accounts process, ensuring compliance with corporate policies and statutory requirements.
✔️ Conduct financial analysis, scenario testing, and budget modelling to drive strategic initiatives.
✔️ Oversee risk-assessed spending, cost control, and performance analysis.
✔️ Review policies, reports, and procedures, ensuring alignment with best financial practices.
✔️ Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders (e.g., NHS, schools, audit teams) to develop financial strategies.
✔️ Drive process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness within the finance function.
✔️ Lead, mentor, and develop a team, ensuring strong performance and motivation.
What We’re Looking For: ✅
Qualifications & Experience:- Essential: Part-qualified or studying towards CCAB or equivalent.
- Desirable: Fully qualified CCAB Accountant (CIMA, ACCA, ACA, CIPFA) or equivalent.
- Proven experience in financial planning, budgeting, and reporting within a large organisation (local government experience preferred).
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial frameworks, statutory requirements, and codes of practice.
- Experience managing a team in a finance function.
