The Principal Auditor is a key role within the Assurance team, supporting the Head of Assurance and Audit Manager in delivering internal audit and counter fraud plans.

This position involves managing a diverse portfolio that includes audit reviews, proactive fraud investigations, contract reviews, and project management tasks.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide assurance on the effectiveness of the Council's internal control, risk management, and governance processes.
  • Conduct independent audits and collaborate with senior management to implement operational improvements.
  • Plan and prepare audit assignments efficiently and effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Undertake follow-up reviews for audits that received limited assurance opinions.

 

Role Dimensions

  • Reports directly to the Head of Assurance and Audit Manager.
  • Works independently as part of the Assurance team without direct line management responsibilities, although opportunities to mentor Auditors and Trainees may arise.

 

Key Challenges

  • Employing strong time management skills to balance multiple audit engagements while ensuring timely project completion.
  • Working autonomously with minimal oversight.
