The Role: Are you a health and safety professional with a passion for fire safety and risk management? Do you have a strong understanding of relevant legislation and the ability to implement effective safety strategies? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join the London Borough of Greenwich as a Risk Management Officer within our Directorate of Housing Services!As a Risk Management Officer, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of health and safety on building projects, maintenance contracts, and fire risk assessments across the borough. You will work closely with the Planned Works Section, Property Services Officers, Supervisors, and external contractors to ensure compliance with safety regulations and best practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage the health and safety of building projects, maintenance contracts, and fire risk assessments across the borough.
Maintain in-depth knowledge of health and safety matters, including fire prevention, asbestos management, and construction safety.
Interpret and apply legislation related to Fire Safety Policy, The Fire Safety Order 2005 (RRO), Building Regulations Approved Document B: Firecode, and other relevant guidance.
Assist in the development, dissemination, and implementation of the Council's Fire Safety Policy.
Prepare and monitor fire risk assessments of premises as required by legislation.
Provide fire safety advice on the interpretation and implementation of the Firecode and other legislation to all stakeholders.
Liaise with Fire and Rescue Services and undertake corrective actions resulting from enforcing action.
Investigate fire incidents, produce reports, and maintain comprehensive records.
Act on behalf of the Council in connection with the Party Wall Act 1996.
Act as CDM Co-ordinator on projects in compliance with CDM (2007) Regulations.
Carry out planned and ad hoc safety inspections and audits.
Contribute to the continuous development of the ISO 9000 Quality Management system.
About You:
In-depth knowledge of health and safety matters, including fire prevention, asbestos management, and construction safety.
Comprehensive understanding of Fire Safety Policy, The Fire Safety Order 2005 (RRO), Building Regulations Approved Document B: Firecode, and other relevant legislation.
Experience in preparing and monitoring fire risk assessments.
Ability to provide fire safety advice and guidance to stakeholders.
Experience in liaising with Fire and Rescue Services.
Knowledge of the Party Wall Act 1996.
Demonstrable experience in the preparation and operation of CDM site safety plans.
Ability to carry out planned and ad hoc safety inspections and audits.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
Access to own transport and willingness to travel extensively across the borough.
