The Role: An exciting opportunity has arisen for a
Legal Assistant – Childcare to join a dynamic
Legal Services team within
Customer and Governance. This role provides the chance to develop legal expertise within
local government childcare law, with potential career progression towards becoming a qualified solicitor.
The successful candidate will provide legal support to the
Senior Lawyer and contribute to safeguarding vulnerable children by assisting with court proceedings, drafting legal documents, and ensuring compliance with legal processes.
Key Responsibilities: 
Assist in the provision of
childcare legal advice, including drafting pleadings, case summaries, and position statements.

Prepare, draft, and file
legal documents required for court hearings and tribunal appeals.

Ensure
tribunal/court bundles are complete, paginated, and filed correctly.

Attend
meetings, tribunals, and court hearings, taking detailed notes or transcripts.

Liaise with
Northampton Children’s Trust, social workers, and other stakeholders to facilitate effective case management.

Support the
training and development of colleagues and clients within the legal team.

Assist in improving
team processes to enhance efficiency.
What We’re Looking For:
Qualifications & Experience:- Essential: CILEx Level 3 qualification (or working towards) or equivalent legal qualification.
- Desirable: LLB (Hons) Law or further academic legal qualification.
- Experience or strong interest in local government legal services.
Skills & Competencies:- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to collate, analyze, and present legal information in a clear and concise manner.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise workloads effectively.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and legal case management software.
- Problem-solving mindset with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Awareness of political and cultural sensitivities in local government settings.
